Expert Top Pick of the Day: Golden State Warriors vs. Boston Celtics

Expert Top Pick of the Day: Golden State Warriors vs. Boston Celtics

It’s do-or-die for the Celtics as they face elimination at home against the Warriors, who have a 3-2 lead after taking Game 5, 104-94, on Monday. It was the second straight win for Golden State, who has handed Boston two consecutive losses for the first time in this year’s playoffs.

Boston must take advantage of playing on their home floor this time around after losing to the Warriors by 16 in Game 3.

They realize that another defeat at TD Garden means watching their rivals hoist the NBA Championship trophy in front of their home fans.

However, the Celtics also know that if they keep turning the ball over at the rate they have in the last two games, they can forget about having any chance to win a title this year.

Warriors Can Wrap Up Series

Golden State needs another win on the road to wrap up their mission for another championship.

Their success in Game 5 improved the Warriors to 15-6 in the playoffs, and they’ll try to hand Boston their third straight defeat tonight. Although the Celtics mounted a third-quarter comeback, they were able to hold them off for the ten-point victory.

Andrew Wiggins led his team with 26 points and controlled the boards against the bigger Celtics team with 13 rebounds. Klay Thompson added 21 points for the Warriors.

The trio of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Thompson became the first trio in the last 50 seasons to win 20 games in the NBA Finals, breaking the record of the San Antonio Spurs with Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker. A win tonight would give the Golden State franchise their seventh championship since winning their first in 1947.

Turnovers Have Been The Celtics Demise

It’s easy to see why the Celtics have been losing recently. They had 15 turnovers in Game 4 on the road and 18 versus the Warriors on Monday night in Game 5.

They had solid third quarters in both games, which is usually when Golden State pulls away from most teams but continued to give the ball away through the final period to lose by ten points in both matchups. Other than this one big problem, the Celtics have played well enough to win in the last two games.

They did accomplish their mission of containing Curry in Game 5 after he torched them for 43 points on their home floor in the previous game. However, that effort also needs to continue tonight as they look to return to San Francisco for Game 7 with a victory to tie the series.
