The Knicks and Warriors meet for the first time this season at Chase Center in San Francisco tonight.

New York is 8-7 and is third in the Atlantic Division, four games behind the Boston Celtics. They started their current road trip with wins over the Utah Jazz and Denver Nuggets to improve to 4-4 away from home.

Jalen Brunson has been a key part of the Knicks’ success in his first season with the team, scoring 21 points and dishing out seven assists in Wednesday’s victory.

The Warriors continue to disappoint in their quest to defend their championship. They have a 6-9 record and are fourth in the Pacific Division, just two games ahead of the last-place Los Angeles Lakers.

New York is 2-0 to start the current five-game west coast road trip and looking for another tonight against the Warriors. They got a 118-111 win at Utah on Tuesday before winning at Denver as underdogs.

The Nuggets were without MVP Nikola Jokic due to COVID-19 and took their first loss at home as Julius Randle led the Knicks with 34 points and grabbed 11 rebounds with four steals and four assists.

Randle is first on the team in scoring, averaging 21.3 points, and is their top rebounder with 8.9 per game. Jalen Brunson adds 20 points and leads the team with 6.9 assists, and RJ Barrett chips in with 18.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

 

Warriors’ Defense Needs Improvement

The Warriors were one of the top defensive teams in the league during their championship run last season. At the start of this campaign, they are 29th, giving up 118.3 points per game.

However, they’re fourth in points scored with 117.9 per night while shooting 47.8% from the field. Klay Thompson also continues his poor shooting and makes just 35.1% of his shots the season.

Curry leads the Warriors with 32.8 points per game, which is second in the league behind Luka Doncic. Kevon Looney is their leading rebounder with 6.9 per game, and Draymond Green is the team leader in assists with 6.7. A win tonight would be the sixth straight at home for Golden State.
