Sports Betting Guides

Each sport has its own betting market dynamics, key numbers, and strategic considerations. A successful NFL bettor and a successful MLB bettor use very different approaches. Here is what you need to know for each major sport.

NFL Betting

The NFL is the most bet sport in America and the most efficient market. Key numbers are 3 and 7, more games land on these margins than any other. Public money inflates favorites and overs in primetime games. The best edges come from situational spots: divisional underdogs, teams on short rest as favorites, and road teams in late-season games with playoff implications.

NBA Betting

The NBA has the highest scoring totals in sports, creating volatile games. Back-to-backs and schedule spots matter enormously, a team on the second night of a back-to-back as a home favorite is one of the most reliable fade spots in sports. Injury news releases close to tip-off creates enormous line movement opportunities for bettors monitoring real-time information.

MLB Betting

Baseball is a long season (162 games) that rewards bankroll discipline above all. The moneyline is the primary bet type. Starting pitcher matchups drive lines, but bullpen usage, park factors, and weather all influence outcomes significantly. Small favorites (-115 to -130) in favorable matchups offer better long-term value than large favorites.

NHL Betting

Hockey is the highest-variance major sport. Even strong teams lose to weak opponents regularly because a single goaltender performance can change everything. Puck line betting (the -1.5/+1.5 spread) offers better value than moneylines in many cases. Goaltender matchups and travel schedules are the most important betting factors.

Soccer Betting

Low scoring makes soccer results highly unpredictable. The draw is a genuine outcome in most leagues, requiring three-way moneyline thinking. Asian handicaps offer more efficient pricing than traditional spreads. Home advantage is stronger in soccer than any other sport, particularly in lower-tier leagues. Totals (goals) in leagues like the Bundesliga skew over historically.

College Football and Basketball

The sheer volume of teams creates market inefficiencies that sharp bettors exploit. Lesser-known conference games receive less bookmaker attention and more favorable lines. Motivation and home-field advantage are stronger factors at the college level. Be cautious of public teams, Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Duke, and Kentucky consistently attract square money that inflates their lines.
