Luke Raley
RF
The 31-year-old's absence Saturday could be attributed to southpaw Connor Prielipp starting on the mound for Minnesota, but Raley will get another day to recover from elbow soreness all the same. Dominic Canzone will start in right field as a result, moving Cal Raleigh into the DH spot while Mitch Garver starts at catcher.
Carlos Vargas
RP
Vargas opened the season on the injured list due to a right lat strain, an injury severe enough for him to transfer to the 60-day IL in early April. It looks like he's close to making his 2026 major-league debut, and if all goes well with his bullpen session and upcoming rehab assignment, then Vargas would be on track to rejoin the Mariners in mid-August.
Brendan Donovan
3B
Although ready to return, Donovan will spend time with his family "but he's through his rehab. He feels good and ready to go," Hollander relayed Friday. Donovan's return is good news for the Mariners, whose infield depth took a hit after the team placed J.P. Crawford (wrist) on the 10-day injured list. Prior to landing on the 10-day IL in mid-May due to a left groin strain, Donovan was slashing .274/.386/.452 with one steal, three home runs and eight RBI over 101 plate appearances.
J.P. Crawford
SS
Crawford missed four consecutive games in July due to a wrist injury. While he played in the Mariners' previous series against the Rangers and Dodgers this past week, it looks like Crawford's wrist issue is severe enough for him to go on the injured list. A minimum stint on the IL would have the veteran shortstop back with the Mariners on Aug. 9, but the team will have a better sense of his recovery timeline once he's cleared to resume baseball activities. Leo Rivas was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.
Cooper Criswell
RP
The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster that the Mariners needed for Miles Mastrobuoni, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Tacoma after Julio Rodriguez (concussion) was placed on the 7-day IL. Criswell was diagnosed with a Grade-1 pectoral strain in mid-June but has since been tagged with a shoulder strain. The move to the 60-day IL doesn't change his projected return for early August, though a clearer timeline will be established once Criswell embarks on a rehab assignment.
