Emerson Hancock
SP
Hancock was struck by a comebacker during the first frame Sunday and was pulled from the contest with two outs in the second inning. It appears as though the right-hander escaped with a bruise and should avoid a trip to the injured list. If the Mariners want to give Hancock some extra time to recover coming out of the All-Star break, they could simply slot him into the back end of the rotation rather than have him pitch in the first series of the second half against the Giants next weekend.
Julio Rodriguez
CF
Rodriguez is eligible to come off the injured list Friday, but he's already not in the lineup for the series opener against the Rays, and it sounds like he's going to take the entire weekend set along with the All-Star break to rest up before the second half of the season. Luke Raley is starting in center field and batting sixth for Seattle against right-hander Nick Martinez on Friday.
Brendan Donovan
3B
Previous reports suggested Donovan would begin playing rehab games in the Arizona Complex League on Tuesday. That's been pushed back a couple days, but Donovan should still have a good chance to be activated immediately after the All-Star break. The 29-year-old has been sidelined since mid-May with a left groin strain.
Cooper Criswell
RP
The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster that the Mariners needed for Miles Mastrobuoni, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Tacoma after Julio Rodriguez (concussion) was placed on the 7-day IL. Criswell was diagnosed with a Grade-1 pectoral strain in mid-June but has since been tagged with a shoulder strain. The move to the 60-day IL doesn't change his projected return for early August, though a clearer timeline will be established once Criswell embarks on a rehab assignment.
Rob Refsnyder
DH
Refsnyder has gone 1-for-17 over his last seven games, and his poor performance at the plate may have been partially due to injuries to both of his knees. A minimum stint on the IL has the veteran outfielder in line to return to the majors July 9, though it's unclear whether he'll be back in action before or after the All-Star break. Buddy Kennedy -- who the Mariners acquired from the Giants on Sunday -- will take Refsnyder's spot on the 26-man roster.
