Akin landed on the 15-day injured list in late June with soreness in his pitching elbow. It seems he could be looking at an extended absence, but more will be known following his visit with Dr. Meister.

Blaze Alexander

Alexander went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored before being plunked in the bottom of the seventh inning and being replaced by a pinch runner. It's a brutal development for the 27-year-old, who is now likely to miss at least the next couple weeks after batting .365 (35-for-96) with 10 extra-base hits, three steals, 15 RBI and 16 runs in 32 games since the start of June.

Ryan Helsley

RP

Helsley landed on the injured list July 3 with elbow discomfort, and although he's dealing with inflammation that will keep him sidelined for an extended period of time, manager Craig Albernaz confirmed that the 31-year-old reliever hasn't suffered any structural damage to his UCL. A timeline for his recovery could begin to come into picture once he begins a throwing program, but the team is optimistic that Helsley will be back before the end of the season. In the meantime, Tyler Wells, Rico Garcia and Andrew Kittredge figure to be in the mix for saves in Baltimore.

Felix Bautista

RP

Coming back from right labrum and rotator cuff surgery, Bautista was cleared to resume mound work last week and the team is "pretty excited about where he's at." The Orioles are holding out hope that Bautista could rejoin their bullpen before the end of the regular season, but he's a long way from having an established timeline for a return.

Colin Selby

RP

Selby has been on the shelf since Feb. 14 due to right shoulder inflammation and has made limited progress in his recovery over four months later. The second opinion should provide Selby with more clarity regarding his options for treatment. Given his lengthy layoff from throwing, surgery would seem to be a distinct possibility for the 28-year-old right-hander.
