The Colts are relatively thin in their backfield behind three-time Pro Bowler Jonathan Taylor, so it's not shocking that they're adding some competition during training camp. Williams went undrafted after taking 15 carries for 46 yards over five games during his senior season at Florida State in 2025.

DJ Giddens

RB

Giddens is no threat to Taylor's status as the Colts' top back, but the 2025 fifth-rounder is competing with Seth McGowan for the No. 2 role. With that in mind, Boyd noted that Giddens has struggled a bit to catch the ball out of the backfield in team drills, but it's early on in training camp, and the Kansas State product has some time to clean that aspect of his game up. Whoever ends up being Taylor's top backup will hold minimal fantasy lineup appeal as long as he's healthy but would be a must-add should Taylor miss time for any reason.

Spencer Shrader

Shrader has recovered from a torn ACL that he suffered in Week 5 of the 2025 season. He was the Colts' starting kicker prior to that point but will need to earn that role back by beating out Grupe in a training-camp competition. "I think it'll be a really good competition," special-teams coordinator Brian Mason said Thursday. "We're going to try to get those guys the exact same number of kicks as similar as we possibly can."

Blake Grupe

Grupe and Shrader are battling it out in a training camp competition to determine the Colts' kicker for the upcoming season. Sauce Gardner

Gardner was carted off the field with what's now being described as a lower calf strain. He dealt with a calf strain throughout last season, although it's unclear wheather this issue is related.
