New York Yankees Injury Report
Ryan Weathers
SP
Weathers has been sidelined for the past three weeks with a left forearm flexor strain. He resumed flat-ground work earlier this week and will progress to throwing off the bump soon. Weathers remains optimistic about helping the Yankees as a reliever before the end of the regular season.
Clarke Schmidt
SP
If that goes well, Schmidt could rejoin the active roster during the Yankees' road trip next week. He's made four rehab appearances so far, allowing three runs with an 8:1 K:BB over 5.2 innings. Coming back from an internal brace procedure, Schmidt will be used in a bullpen role for the Yankees down the stretch before likely re-entering the rotation in 2027.
Jazz Chisholm Jr.
2B
Chisholm was injured Tuesday on a slide into second base. He will be shut down from all baseball activities for 7-to-10 days before being re-evaluated, and the Yankees could know by that point whether he has a chance to make it back before the end of the regular season. Anthony Volpe has taken Chisholm's roster spot and could share second base with Jose Caballero while Chisholm is shelved.
Fernando Cruz
RP
Cruz was diagnosed with a partial tear in his right elbow UCL in late August. It's an injury that sometimes requires surgery and often results in an extended absence, but Cruz is motivated to make it back before the regular season concludes. Being able to accomplish that feat, however, is not a given.
Trent Grisham
CF
Grisham might have had a chance at returning from the injured list when first eligible Sept. 15 if he was tending to a Grade 1 strain, but the moderate-grade strain likely takes a minimum-length stay on the shelf off the table. While Grisham is out, Spencer Jones appears likely to shift over from a corner spot to serve as the Yankees' primary center fielder. Heliot Ramos and Jasson Dominguez should see more opportunities in the corner outfield as a result, though both will lose out on playing time once Aaron Judge (rib) returns from the IL, perhaps as soon as next weekend.
