Giancarlo Stanton
DH
Stanton suffered a calf strain nearly three weeks ago, and his progress hasn't come as quickly as hoped. It could be a short window of time between when Stanton is cleared to ramp up his running and when he returns to the active roster, but until the former happens, his timeline remains murky. Spencer Jones has been getting playing time in Stanton's place after Jasson Dominguez (shoulder) joined Stanton on the injured list.
Max Fried
SP
Fried set the Brewers down in order on nine pitches in the first inning but lost control in the second inning, as six of the first seven batters reached for Milwaukee, leading to four runs. Aside from the one bad inning, Fried otherwise looked good and had his plus stuff. It was Fried's second five-run outing of the season. In his other seven starts, the left-hander has surrendered just nine runs across 47.1 innings. On the season, Fried owns a 2.91 ERA and 48:18 K:BB over 58.2 frames, as the strikeouts are at a career-low rate. He'll look to rebound next week, as he's lined up to face the Orioles in Baltimore on Wednesday.
Jasson Dominguez
LF
Dominguez landed on the 10-day injured list last week with a left shoulder AC joint sprain after injuring himself when he collided with the outfield wall while making a catch. The good news is he remains clear of concussion symptoms, but it seems unlikely Dominguez will return before the end of May as he recuperates from the shoulder problem. If Giancarlo Stanton (calf) beats Dominguez back from the IL, the latter could be sent back to the minors rather than rejoin the active roster.
Jose Caballero
SS
Caballero landed on the 10-day IL on Tuesday after being diagnosed with a right middle-finger fracture. The speedster was adamant that he won't miss more than the required 10 days, per Hoch, though New York's medical staff will ultimately have the final say about when he's ready to return. Anthony Volpe was called up from Triple-A to take Caballero's spot on the 26-man roster and as the Yankees' primary shortstop. Boone's comments suggest that Caballero has the inside track to the starting role when he's healthy, though Volpe could force further discussion if he performs well.
Gerrit Cole
SP
Cole made the fifth start of his rehab assignment as he continues to ramp up in his recovery from Tommy John surgery with an internal brace, which he underwent March 11, 2025. The veteran hurler threw 77 pitches Sunday -- his most so far during his rehab stint -- and kept the ball in the park for the first time in those five starts. Prior to Sunday's outing, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Cole would need at least two more rehab starts before being activated from the 15-day injured list, so the veteran right-hander will remain on assignment in the minors during the upcoming week.
