Carlos Rodon
SP
Rodon rested Sunday, but the southpaw is expected to resume playing catch Monday and will do throwing of some kind just about every day during the All-Star break. He'll likely need to complete multiple bullpen sessions before he advances to facing hitters and then embarks on a rehab assignment, so Rodon still has a few hurdles to clear in his recovery from left elbow inflammation prior to returning from the 15-day injured list. Rodon is without a definitive target date for a return but appears unlikely to make it back from the shelf before the end of July.
Max Fried
SP
Per MLB.com, Fried reported to Double-A Somerset to throw his live session Saturday and tossed 44 pitches over three simulated innings. He'll presumably throw a bullpen session in the next day or two before the Yankees assign him to an affiliate to kick off a rehab assignment. Assuming he's able to build on his 44-pitch workload from Saturday, Fried may need just one or two rehab appearances before slotting back into the New York rotation. The veteran southpaw has been on the shelf since May 16 due to a bone bruise in his left elbow.
Clarke Schmidt
SP
Schmidt hasn't yet pitched this season as he continues to work his way back from the internal brace procedure he underwent last July. The right-hander was a reliever early in his career, but he started in 62 of his 63 regular-season appearances over the past three campaigns. With that said, the Yankees seem open to deploying Schmidt out of the bullpen upon his return, which could help him settle back in to facing big-league hitters following what will have been a lengthy absence. The 30-year-old has been logging bullpen sessions and is expected to begin facing hitters before the end of July, which would put him on track to potentially be activated sometime in August.
Giancarlo Stanton
DH
The 36-year-old has been sidelined since late April due to recurring calf issues. He initially suffered a strained right calf and then suffered a whole new strain in the same calf while rehabbing last month. It's unclear what kind of timeline Stanton is looking at for his potential return to the lineup. He slashed .256/.302/.422 with three homers, 14 RBI, eight runs scored, one stolen base and a 6:29 BB:K across 96 trips to the plate before going down with the injuries.
Aaron Judge
RF
After Judge was placed on the 10-day injured list June 5 due to a stress fracture of the first rib on his right side, the Yankees relayed that the outfielder would be re-evaluated in 4-to-6 weeks. The Yankees will ultimately wait until around the six-week mark to send Judge in for re-imaging, after which he could be cleared to resume baseball activities if the MRI shows that his rib has healed as anticipated. Cashman reiterated that the Yankees fully expect Judge to return to action at some point this season.
