Jarquez Hunter
RB
Hunter was listed as the Rams' starting running back Saturday while Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and Ronnie Rivers were all sidelined. Hunter was effective as a rusher, with five of his 12 rushing attempts going for eight yards or more, and his last carry late in the fourth quarter resulted in a 12-yard touchdown. The 2025 fourth-rounder is up to 103 yards and one score on 21 carries through two preseason games, but he's far from a guarantee to crack the Rams' 53-man roster by the end of training camp, with Rivers being his main competition. Hunter's last opportunity for an in-game audition takes place Thursday in the Rams' preseason finale against the Chargers.
Stetson Bennett IV
QB
Bennett was once again named the starter for Saturday's exhibition contest while Matthew Stafford and most of the Rams' first-team offense observed the game from the sidelines. Bennett proceeded to lead the Rams on scoring drives on four of five series, with the fourth-year QB rushing for one- and eight-yard touchdowns in the second quarter. Rookie first-rounder Ty Simpson took over under center in the second half but couldn't match Bennett's production, which puts the latter in the driver's seat to be the Rams' backup quarterback behind Stafford for the regular season. The Rams will wrap up the preseason Thursday against the Chargers.
Ty Simpson
QB
Matthew Stafford and most of the Rams' starters were sidelined for Saturday's exhibition contest. As was the case in the preseason opener against the Kansas City, Stetson Bennett served as the starter against New Orleans, and he played well under center before turning the keys over to Simpson midway through the third quarter. Simpson couldn't replicate the production he had against the Chiefs, but he managed to lead an 11-play, 66-yard scoring drive in the fourth quarter that ended with an 12-yard rushing touchdown by Jarquez Hunter. It appears as though Simpson is securely slated as the Rams' QB3 behind Stafford and Bennett heading into the regular season. The Rams wrap up their preseason slate Thursday against the Chargers.
Daniel Rickert
DE
Rickert recorded three tackles (two solo) before exiting the game. The 21-year-old had just signed with the team as an undrafted free agent earlier this month and will likely face an uphill battle to earn a roster spot.
CJ Daniels
WR
The rookie sixth-rounder saw far more work Saturday than he did in the Rams' preseason opener against the Chiefs. Daniels ended up leading both teams in catches, receiving yards and targets, and he logged receptions of 11, 17 and 11 yards on the Rams' final offensive series of the first half, leading to a 26-yard field goal by Harrison Mevis. Daniels is up to 10 catches on 18 targets for 86 yards through two preseason games, and he has real momentum toward earning a depth spot on the Rams' 53-man roster by the end of training camp. His last opportunity for an in-game audition will take place Thursday in the Rams' preseason finale against the Chargers.
