Deebo Samuel

General manager John Lynch relayed to reporters before Saturday's practice that Samuel is in "really good shape," and the veteran wideout backed up that endorsement with a strong practice Saturday. The addition of Samuel is a timely one, given that Ricky Pearsall is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery over the next couple of weeks to repair a PCL injury in his right knee. Samuel figures to slide in as the 49ers' WR3 behind Mike Evans and Christian Kirk (calf), with De'Zhaun Stribling (hamstring) also competing for consistent snaps on offense.

Tanner McLachlan

TE

McLachlan was waived/injured Friday with an undisclosed issue and will now spend the 2026 season on IR. The 2024 sixth-round pick out of Cincinnati will need to look toward 2027 for a chance to get back on an NFL field.

Keion White

DE

White suffered adductor issues during the session, and it is unclear how serious or persistent the issue is. The 27-year-old participated in 14 regular-season games last season between the Patriots and 49ers, logging 18 tackles (seven solo), including 1.5 sacks. If the outside linebacker must miss time, Sam Okuayinonu and KJ Henry may see more opportunities due to a diminished linebacker corps.

Romello Height

DE

The third-round rookie out of Texas Tech has not yet had a chance to prove himself in training camp. Height was carted off the field on Monday due to cramps and has now sustained an elbow issue. If the outside linebacker cannot stay on the field, it will be hard for him to pass Sam Okuayinonu on the depth chart before the start of the regular season.

Khalil Herbert

RB

Herbert will provide San Francisco with much-needed depth at running back, as Jordan James (ribs), Isaac Guerendo (pectoral) and Kaelon Black (undisclosed) are all currently dealing with injuries. Herbert spent last season with the Jets, rushing for 52 yards on 16 carries. The 28-year-old could also add value as a return specialist.
