Blake Dunn
LF
Dunn was removed from Friday's game after sustaining a knee injury. He'll undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury, and the Reds should have an update on his status within the next couple of days. Dunn is competing for an outfield depth spot on Cincinnati's Opening Day roster after doing so in 2025, though he was optioned to Triple-A Louisville in early May and stayed in the minors for the rest of the season.
Hunter Greene
SP
Greene said of the elbow soreness last season that "it was a playoff push, so I pushed through it." The hurler noted that he got an injection and "felt fine" during the offseason, but the discomfort returned a week before the start of spring training. Greene made a Cactus League start Feb. 28 and was touched up for four runs on five hits and one walk over one inning of work. The righty is being sent for an MRI, which will be evaluated by team physician Dr. Timothy Kremchek before being sent to specialist Dr. Neal ElAttrache for a second opinion. Greene said that "I know I have bone spurs" in the elbow, but "as of now, there's no UCL damage." More will be known about Greene's outlook after he's evaluated by both doctors.
Josh Staumont
RP
Staumont signed a minor-league deal with the Reds last offseason but wound up missing the entire season with an undisclosed injury. It's unclear what his current health status is. Staumont posted a 3.70 ERA but an ugly 18:14 K:BB over 24.1 innings for the Twins in 2024.
Joel Alberto Valdez
RP
Alex Young
RP
The exact nature of Young's procedure isn't known, but the 31-year-old revealed in his social media post that doctors informed him that he had been unknowingly pitching with a distal tear in his left elbow for the past nine years. His surgery should provide a permanent fix for the compromised ligament, but it's not clear if Young will be back to full health by the time spring training rolls around. Young is under contract on a minor-league deal with Cincinnati and will have the ability to elect free agency after the season.
Carson Spiers
SP
Spiers was non-tendered by Cincinnati last week, but he'll remain in the organization on a minor-league pact. The right-hander is expected to miss most, if not all, of the 2026 season after having Tommy John surgery in late July, so it's likely a two-year minor-league contract.
