Matt Chapman
3B
There was hope that Chapman could return to the active roster before the All-Star break when he initially landed on the injured list July 1 with an abdominal strain, but the team's decision to hold him out of all activities will officially rule him out for the final three games of the first half. The 33-year-old said Wednesday that he hasn't seen any significant improvement in his recovery, and his absence could bleed into the second half if his progress remains minimal during the intermission.
Victor Bericoto
RF
Bericoto had to make an early exit from Thursday's game after injuring his oblique while making a diving catch, and he'll now be forced to sit out until shortly after the All-Star break. Grant McCray was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to replenish the Giants' depth in the outfield.
Daniel Susac
C
Susac has been shelved for the past two weeks with a lower-back strain. He was used at designated hitter in his first rehab contest, and the Giants will surely want him to play at least a game or two at catcher before returning the rookie to the active roster. A return for the start of the second half is likely for Susac.
Jonah Cox
CF
Cox entered in the sixth inning and hit a leadoff single to right field before coming around to score, and he added another single later in the frame. The 24-year-old outfielder also opened the ninth inning with a solo home run to center field off catcher Carson Kelly. He's appeared in six straight outings since having his contract selected from Double-A Richmond on Sunday, batting 4-for-9 with three runs scored, a home run and a double in nine plate appearances.
Matt Gage
RP
There was some fear that the injury could be worse, so the diagnosis is relatively good news for the southpaw. Gage will be given a platelet-rich plasma injection before resting, and he could rejoin the Giants' bullpen before the end of this season if all goes well. He holds a 5.60 ERA and 22:17 K:BB across 27.1 frames this season.
Harrison Bader
CF
As long as he comes out of those activities with no setbacks, Bader should be able to begin a rehab assignment soon. The veteran outfielder has been sidelined since late May due to plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
Joel Peguero
RP
Peguero landed on the 60-day injured list June 1 due to a left hamstring strain, but it appears his rehab is coming along at a nice pace. He was immediately placed on the 60-day IL after suffering the injury, so he won't be eligible to be reinstated until the end of July. Peguero will presumably be asked to complete at least another bullpen or two before facing live hitters.
Jason Foley
RP
Foley compiled a 2.89 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 7:2 K:BB in 9.1 innings across his first nine rehab appearances between Sacramento and Single-A San Jose before being shut down earlier this month when he experienced renewed soreness in his right shoulder. The right-hander didn't pitch for eight days before being cleared to resume his rehab assignment over the weekend, and he seems to have come out of Friday's appearance no worse for the wear. Foley appears poised to return from the 60-day injured list and join the Giants bullpen at some point over the next two weeks.
Rowan Wick
RP
Wick's move to the 60-day IL was fully expected, as San Francisco signed him earlier this weekend with the knowledge that the right-hander would miss the entire 2026 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent in November. The 33-year-old's contract includes a club option for 2027, so the Giants will have the ability to closely monitor his rehab program in the months to come before deciding whether to retain him this winter. Wick hasn't pitched in the majors since 2022 but was one of the top relievers in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball this past season, when he turned in a 1.13 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 58:13 K:BB over 47.2 innings.
Hayden Birdsong
RP
Birdsong was diagnosed with a sprained UCL in mid-March and elected to go under the knife. The right-hander will miss the entirety of the 2026 campaign and likely at least the first couple months of 2027.
Randy Rodriguez
RP
The transaction frees a spot on the 40-man roster for Luis Arraez, whose signing was officially announced Tuesday. Rodriguez underwent Tommy John surgery last September and will miss the entire 2026 season.
Jose Butto
RP
Butto has already been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery Saturday to repair an artery in his arm, so moving to 60-day IL has no impact on his timeline. He'll cede his spot on the 40-man roster to Eric Haase, who was selected from Triple-A Sacramento to replace Daniel Susac (elbow) on the active roster.
