Shane Bieber
SP
Manager John Schneider has previously hinted that Bieber would be coming off the injured list Monday, but the team wanted to see him throw one last bullpen session Saturday before making it official. The 31-year-old righty has made five rehab appearances across three affiliates since beginning his rehab assignment in late May, posting a 6.88 ERA and 1.88 WHIP with a 14:5 K:BB across 17 innings. He threw 80 pitches in five frames during his last appearance, so he could avoid making his season debut under a workload restriction.
Anthony Santander
RF
Santander underwent surgery to repair the labrum in his left shoulder in February, but he "could definitely be a factor" for the Blue Jays by August, manager John Schneider said Thursday. A timetable for Santander's return won't become clearer until he's ready for a rehab assignment, and he will need the equivalent of a full spring training's worth of at-bats before being activated.
Lenyn Sosa
2B
Out since late May with a right wrist contusion, Sosa has been hitting and going through defensive drills as the Blue Jays' spring training complex in Florida. He is likely a week or so away from playing in games and should rejoin the Blue Jays around July 1.
Addison Barger
RF
Barger continues to make progress with his right elbow inflammation but could need an additional few more days than expected to ramp up activities before he's cleared to play in games. He should still be able to return to the Blue Jays' active roster before the end of June.
Yimi Garcia
RP
After recording a 13-pitch inning for Buffalo on Tuesday, Toronto is looking to carry out its original plan of getting Garcia into more minor-league action before he makes his season debut for the big-league club. The 35-year-old was originally placed on the 15-day injured list March 25 and then was transferred to the 60-day IL a month later. Garcia appeared in 22 games for Toronto during the 2025 regular season, posting a 3.86 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB through 21 innings.
Max Scherzer
SP
Scherzer had been slated to start Wednesday in Boston, but the Blue Jays instead opted to put him on the shelf after the back issue cropped up just hours before game time. Toronto recalled Chad Dallas from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move, and he'll likely be tasked with covering multiple innings out of the bullpen once opening pitcher Braydon Fisher exits the contest. Scherzer's move to the IL comes just one week after the Blue Jays activated him following an absence of nearly seven weeks due to right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation. The transaction is retroactive to Sunday, so Scherzer will be eligible for activation as soon as June 29 if he's able to recover quickly from the back issue.
Joe Mantiply
RP
Mantiply was originally expected to start up a throwing program soon, but after receiving a second opinion on his knee, he decided the best path forward would be to undergo a cleanup procedure. An updated timeline for his return will likely be available after he goes under the knife, but manager John Schneider said the operation won't force the southpaw to miss the rest of the season.
Jose Berrios
SP
The Blue Jays and Berrios went into the operation unsure whether the pitcher would require a ligament repair, and as it turns out he required a full UCL procedure. Berrios has been sidelined all season with elbow problems and will now likely be shelved until at least the second half of the 2027 campaign.

Chay Yeager
RP
The timing of the procedure points to a possible late start to the 2027 season, as well, though that could depend on whether the reliever needs a full Tommy John repair of the less invasive internal brace surgery. Yeager collected a 2.75 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 64 strikeouts and five saves in 55.2 innings across High-A and Double-A in 2025.
Cody Ponce
SP
Ponce sprained his right ACL in late March, which was a severe enough injury to require season-ending surgery, but he should be available for the start of spring training. He signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Blue Jays in December after spending three seasons in Japan. Ponce's start against the Rockies on March 30 -- when he suffered his injury -- was his first appearance in an MLB game since 2021, when he played with the Pirates.
Bowden Francis
SP
Francis will miss the entire 2026 season after the Blue Jays recently revealed that he would need reconstructive surgery on his right elbow, so his move to the 60-day IL was merely procedural. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for infielder Ben Cowles, whom the Blue Jays claimed off waivers from the Cubs.
